Revolting Cocks, Got Cock?

Today, I found out the Revolting Cocks released a new album... they did that on Tuesday, how did I not know this? Well, their twitter page hasn't been updated since their last tour back in the fall, so I guess that's part of the reason.

I'm on my second listen of the album. I wasn't necessarily thrilled listening through the first time. But, it's getting better.

If you are like me, when you think of the Revolting Cocks, the era that you probably think to most, would be the Beers, Steers, and Queers and Linger Fickin' Good era. Al, Paul, Chris, Mike, Luc, Duane, Bill... That era seemed as though the songs were a baseline, with the song thrown on top. Paul would play the riff for about 4-7 minutes, Chris would yell, Bill would look pretty, Al would be strung out... you know, the good old days.

All those guys are gone. Luc might still be around, but he's not listed on the website. Al produced this one. You (and I) may miss the old days, but RevCo is what Al says it is. If he says it's Sin Quirin, Clayton Worbeck, and Josh Bradford, then that's what RevCo is.

So, how's the new album?

Getting better.

The album kicks off sounding like Kiss, "Deuce"; with the song "Trojan Horse". It's a song, that seems to be about condoms. Nice. While I was first listening to it, I was also watching a local news channel online, when a Trojan commercial came on, so that was a sign.

Second song, "Filthy Senoritas" is catchy. It's got a sound similar to "Robo Banditos", and has tie-ins to that song.

"Dykes" is ok.

"Juice" is a rather funny song. Sounding like a German, talking about the Juice. The song sounds a bit like the Project .44 song "I Don't Care". In addition to the German talking parts, the song has a really good chorus. I can't tell if he gave the juice to his duck or his dog, probably dog. It may be my favorite on the album.

"Pissy Army" seems to be trying to get people to join the Ministry fan club, Piss Army. "Fuck Money" is a request to buy the album.

"Bitch Addictive" starts out with the line:

You're a bitch but your shoes are cool.

Thank you, I do like my shoes.

"Air Traffic Control" is possibly this album's version of "Keys to the City" where they are taking planes instead of trains. Next album will have automobiles.

"Poke-A-Hot-Ass" has the great line:

I get more ass than the catholic priest.

and

If I was an indian, I'd be Poke-A-Hot-Ass.

The release ends with a dirtier remake of the 2 Live Crew song "Me So Horny", followed by a remix of the same song. Who would have thought in 1989 that you could make the song dirtier? Way to go boys.

All in all, it's a solid album. No major flaws. Again, I'd hope for more of a power bass riff presence, but if this is what Al wants to give us, I accept it.

Did he achieve what he was going for? Yeah. It's solid. It's a fun group of guys, sounding like they are having fun playing, and having fun talking about taboo things.

It'll be interesting to see them try to work some of these songs into a concert. "Filthy Senoritas" and "Robo Banditos" medley should be fun. Also the train, plane, and motorcycle ("Stainless Steel Providers") medley can be good too. If they throw in Ministry "Jesus Built My Hotrod" they'll have most every method of transportation covered.

Revco Sex-o Olympic-o

It says (up there) Beer Drinking and Other Thinking. Well, here's some other thinking.

Revolting Cocks put out a new release on Tuesday. This one is entitled Sex-o Olympic-o. Overall, this is a pretty good album (do we still call it an album? If it's downloaded what do I call it?)


The album is available on Itunes. It's also on Amazon. hmmm, iTunes has it for $9.99 and Amazon for $8.99. Sadly, it wasn't on EMusic on Tuesday, it might be up there now, but dunno (websensed here at work). I'm gonna haveta check tonight.

Ok, so now about the album. I like it. I like it lots. Granted it's somewhat difficult to think of it as Revolting Cocks, but if Al says it's Revco, then it's Revco. I may have my ideas of what I think something should be, and what something's been in the past, but ultimately, what something is, is what the owner says it is.

I still love "I'm Not Gay". It was one of my favorite parts of the Ministry concert back in May. The song gets better with age. "Cousins" is now one of my top played songs. It's a nice little ditty about incest with a cousin. "Why walk down the street when you can walk down the hall?"

Lude Ferrigno is a nice touching song about everyones favorite Hulk.

All the songs are pretty darn good. I guess the biggest question is, would I buy this album if it was a different band name, other than Revolting Cocks? Probably, I buy everything that's on Al's 13th Planet label. Would I buy it if it weren't 13th Planet? Probably, but I don't think I'd be listening to it as much.

Like beer from a specific brewery, you expect good things from them. 13th Planet has some outstanding artists on the label. Ministry (obviously), Revolting Cocks, Prong, Ascension of the Watchers, and False Icons. Ok, so they are all pretty much incestuous, with someone from each being in Ministry, but they all have a different style.

Revco now is the (what I'd assume) dance club stuff. Ministry is (was) the modern industrial. Prong is the straight metal band. AotW is kind of ambient. False Icons reminds me of late 80's early 90's industrial.

It kind of reminds me of Three Floyds Brewery. Ministry is Dark Lord; big, strong, black and powerful. Revco is Alpha King; it's got a citrus aroma, so it's a little fruity, like Revco. Prong is Dreadnaught; in your face, you probably aren't ready for it. AotW is Behemoth; a slow sipper, something to drink and listen to in a big comfy chair, while reading a book and maybe smoking a cigar. False Icons is Black Sun Stout; it's not quite as powerful as Dark Lord, but it's available more often, and you could probably drink more of it without your head exploding.

So, go out, get yourself some Alpha King and sit down with the new Revco. It's probably best to be watching a porno with the sound turned off, while you are listening. If that's not available (or not your thing), maybe some pro wrestling. But then if porno ain't your thing, you probably aren't a huge revco fan anyway.
